Depart from Clarens at 7.00am. Leave from the pick up point outside the Protea Hotel, in Main Street. Travel along the scenic Maloti Route from Clarens to the Caledonspoort Border Post. Complete border formalities and enjoy your first moments in Lesotho.
Valid passports are required and for travellers under 18yrs the ‘un-abridged’ birth certificate is required in addition to their passport.
We take a slow drive via the small villages so that our visitors are able to see the small Basotho dwellings on the hillsides. Your first glimpse of the Basotho families going about their daily lives.
Arrive at one of the National Parks to enjoy a Pony Trek on the amazing Basotho Ponies. Meet your Guide and horse, then saddle up and depart on this adventure. The trail may lead up into the mountains for the confident rider, or along the river on the lowland path for beginners. Which ever trail you take, you will be in the Maluti Foothills amidst stunning scenery.
The average ride is for a duration of three hours after which you will be served a two course lunch on the deck at our venue. Breath taking views enhance the time spent dining.
After lunch you may decide to go for a stroll or if arranged in advance, join our Guide for a walking tour into one of the local villages. Here you meet the Chief (if he is in residence) pop into the neat homes to engage with the families, or ask questions via your Guide who will interpret for you. Visit the local shebeen (tavern) and try their home made brew and just generally absorb the reality of being in a genuine working village in Lesotho. It is an amazing experience.
Return to our vehicle for the homeward trip having spent a stunning day, full of new experiences in Lesotho.
Arrival back in Clarens should be around 5.30pm.
